Hmm im not sure if your Qc file is wrong or maybe one of the smd files .. Both smd files should be in the same directory, and it is a bit easier if you rename them after their purpose. Well to edit models, you have to do the same procedure like editing HL1 models. The current file format is similiar to .mdl So far there is no way to directly export a model into the mdl file format.
