Re: Model Formats
I highly recommend using collada, it's the defacto standard for video game assets these days because it's not a proprietary format like 3ds is.

Re: Hello - I want to create a 3D game with next gen effects
No new demo until the new renderer, can't really show off backend things afterall, although the SDK has progressed.Juggernaut wrote:Hello,
Does the Stable: Cafu 12.05 released May 2012 contains some new demo games within the installation package or are they just the older ones ?
Thanks,

That means another program is using that port, ether you have a dead cafu running the background or some obscure software uses port 30000.

Re: Hello - I want to create a 3D game with next gen effects
The tech demo is ancient, but the code is pretty fresh. We're going to have a new one that'll resemble a level in a AAA title when the renderer is updated. I'd disagree it's only for C++ users, it supports Lua and has a SDK which is easy to use. Adding a texture is as simple as using a png and addin...

Re: Hello - I want to create a 3D game with next gen effects
Compiling off svn is best and lets you make changes easily, but Carsten does put up binaries regularly. Cafu's renderer is out of date but it can already do a lot, you could mod is the aforementioned features, although cafu will be getting a new shiny modern renderer in the future. Cafu already has ...

Re: couple of issues
I'm afraid I can't replicate either of these problems(xp32, xp64, win7-64), perhaps your windows explorer(fm) is broken, or there's a bug that only shows up with win7-32. As for opening .obj, this also works when I try, can you upload the .obj you can't open for us to try using? Perhaps it is a non-...

Re: How to Start with Cafu game Engine to get familiar?
Well it depends on the genre of the game.
A standard FPS would mean Cafu would need little programming and you can basically hop in mapping and adding assets, can do a bunch with the GUI system already.
The graphical part is out of date but it's going to be updated.

Re: GUI graphics example
I haven't played with GUI a whole lot but the versatility is apparently comparable to most major commercial engines. As your demo video shows, GUIs which can be tied to players, entities, stuck on walls. Means super cool ammo indicators that float next to the gun or on the gun, and deadspace style p...

Re: Terrain & me
Well you could quickly integrate instance-based since it's just a matter of having a bunch of servers running per instance and a master server which tracks player data, you could optimize Cafu so changing instances takes only a couple seconds. For a rolling unified world, if the player count wasn't ...

Re: Cafu Engine used in university game project
Good to hear another big Cafu project is on the way. I hope they sign up on the forum to talk, I'd love my game to be MMO-scaled but lack the manpower to make it that big, I have a guy working on a new network lib which has the power, but Cafu itself isn't being drastically changed to have the power...
