Watershader stuff
Okay im currently looking into the watershader. So far there are of course dozens of approaches, while this is nearly an art for itself. HL2 claims to have one of the finest shaders for water. I found their developer Wiki , that gives a lot of information about the settings of their watershader http...

Hehe but thats for a good reason, i did those 2 different ways because i wanna know the result later. In Farcry the gras decals are quite desaturated and somewhat strange colored, more like my lower version, but i can not say for sure which version is better. The Farcry gras decal i inspected looked...

Afaik Leva did these skyboxes with a 360° photo equipment. These are real skies, thats why they look pretty good ;) A would prefer such cubemaps, since terragen can do a well but not outstanding way of creating clouds (at the current version, 2.0 seems to be much better) Anyway i just think that the...

Oh sorry you misunderstood my approach :) With "specific 3d enviroment" i was talking about a specific setup you use when creating Ca3D stuff only ! This of course software independent, its was just an example of my workflow because i use max. You can use whatever software you like, as far as it is ...

Hmm nice ^^ Loks pretty good so far, im still thinking about more mountain shapes, but on the other hand, this looks quite like Farcry, without the dense vegetation (and some additional tricks, like vertikal aligned textures on steep geometry. We need a better skybox ! the current one is not fitting...

So what do we learn about that ? ^^ Always create props and other static meshes items in a specific 3d enviroment. I always have a basic reference (i use the trinity mesh for visual size mesure) file and a customized grid setting (equivalent to the units in CaWE) in 3dsmax. This gives me a much bett...

Hmm sounds like a small error .. Some ideas: - We should add a default texture to the model viewer, that is used when no material is assigned (fallback material) -A clear overview of what entries are required for a conversion. For example im sure there is no use for "specular" and "shine" parameters...

Be careful with wrong terms ! Level geometry is the basic geometry that is used for the radiosity calculation. But static models and details are not "level geometry" even though they are inside of every level ;) The reason why your fps is about 30 is because of the player attached dynamic light. Thi...

Hi there ^^ 1. Yes you can use and combine all light-types as you like. It is possible to create a lighttype that draws a stencilshadow and is affecting all meshes (at what level you want , per pixel or per vertex) The only thing is that it requires a good design to look well, because there is a big...

Thread to collect technical ideas for later implementation
Hi I just realized that we lack of a thread to collect technical trick or things that could be of any value. So i think i start ^^ A few month ago i played "shadow of the colossus" for the PS2, a really stunning game in all aspects. It was really hard to find more detailed information about ther tri...

Incredible Video
I know this is a bit off topic ;) But i have to show you this amazing video of new technology Apple invented, using a multi-input touchscreen. Ordinary screens can only track one input at all but not multiple. This new research project can actually have more than 10 inputs at time (also multiple per...

Hello :) I remember that question quite some time ago...there is no mac port simply because Carsten would need a mac to work with. Here is the original text: Principally, Ca3DE can also easily be ported to additional platforms. For example, all that currently stops me from porting it to the Mac is t...

Hi and welcome ;) Before i answer your questions make sure to use use the correct terminus ! I think you mean "mod" or "modification" instead of "game", since this can be a bit confusing.. Ca3D is the engine, the core to control/render and manage all the content you can create. Custom made content c...
