The new shadersystem is having some sort of a hierarchy 1. basic textures > all kind of images you want to use as a texture 2. cmat file > A textfile that is similiar to the Doom3 system. You describe what material is made of texture(s) You can also use features like panning or pulsating a specific ...

The answer is no and yes ;) No > because there is no support so far. Yes > the material system is based on maximum flexibility, so if you need such a solution, it is of course very easy to implement. So the main answer is "Yes" :) You can create all combinations of materials you want, if you code th...

Hmm i think what Shadow means is the unauthorised use of media. In the case of HL1 all material is provided for free through the SDK, so there is a permisson from all authors / Valve. So "stealing media" is a bad thing if the author is not giving his permission. But there is no real way to provide t...

Uhm that is not exactly true, Scott  A good software is not helping you creating good content, that means that even the best tools can fail if the user is not able to handle them. XSI is a real good software, its maybe the best when you need the highest level animation or photorealistic movie ...

I have a standart 128/768 DSL conection.. The stuttering moving of all elements is not related to the conection speed, its a problem of the engine. So far, Carsten knows about this prblem since we played quiate a while ago, and he added a lot of those "flaws" to a list. Since the DM mod is not that ...

To be honest, milkshape is not a very good choice to learn how to model .. it only supports many game-related fileformats, that can be very usefull .. To learn modelling, i would recommend Gmax, a special free version of 3D Studio Max, very easy to use. http://www4.discreet.com/gmax/gmax.php?id=901 ...

All of the current playermodels and weapons are created by some artists , but created for mods or games like HL1 .. so they are not really fitting the quality we are heading for the next release/techdemo ;) And yes Carsten is right the new hand will look better, and also contain a normal map for the...

Well i think they look quite unfinished ;) No smoothgroups, no textures and i think you did it all quite coarse so far. The mesh proportions look okay, but they have too much polys, and less details. I think you can finish it, just add more details and create a clean mesh, maybe some nice textures ;)

Well nothing new but let me add some Infos to this ;) Lightwave Plugin: Well i dislike Lightwave, so this is the only one i don't know much about it. Photoshop filter: This one is very good for 2D editing, if you want to calculate a highmap into a Normalmap this one is pretty nice. But also have in ...
