Changing the license from GPL to MIT

Post by Carsten » 2016-06-19, 09:47

I'm happy to announce that today we have changed the Cafu license from the GNU General Public License (GPLv3) to the MIT license.

The MIT license is very liberal, short and easy to understand even for legal laymen. It provides a well-established and reliable basis for software projects. Our intention with changing the license is to simplify and clarify the legal aspects for everyone who is using Cafu or contributing to it, as well as for us, the project maintainers and leaders.

Quoting from http://www.cafu.de/dive-in/#cafu-license:
Cafu may be used for any purpose, including commercial purposes, at absolutely no cost. No paperwork, no royalties, no GNU-like “copyleft” restrictions, either. Just download it and use it.

Cafu is Open Source software. Its license is simple and liberal and is compatible with the GPL. Cafu is not in the public domain and the authors and contributors keep their copyright. For exact contribution history, see the revision history.

Best regards,
Carsten
