Following a great and successful Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig, Germany, we've doubled our efforts in order to complete the latest release of the Ca3D-Engine:
Version 8.09 (September 2008) is ready for download now!
The demo downloads for Windows and Linux are available at the Downloads page. They include the live demos, the Ca3DE World Editor CaWE and all tools to make new maps, as well as C++ sample source code and the scripts of the DeathMatch sample game.
CaWE-8.09.png
The latest 8.09 version implements a huge number of improvements and usability enhancements to the Ca3DE World Editor "CaWE", the powerful and easy-to-use world editor that is shipped with the demo releases and makes the creation of new worlds for the Ca3D-Engine convenient and easy. We've brought all our experiences and all feed-back since the previous release into the new version in order to provide you with the best CaWE mapping experience ever.

The full change log is too detailed this time to be reproduced, but can be called up here. It includes an entirely rewritten and now graphics-driver independent "picking" (object selection and manipulation by left mouse button clicks in the 3D views) feature; enhancements to the Selection, New Terrain, Edit Terrains, Carve and New Light tools; new default textures (two grass, sand and rock) for terrains; and many more.

thanks for the first feed-back! :-)

We've always seen plenty of interest before, and I think that with the new licensing program, we're now making an attractive and interesting offer.
The licenses have intentionally been reasonably priced, so that also students, single developers and small teams can work with the Ca3D-Engine.

Quick and reliable as ever: Barely half an hour passed since we sent out the announcement mails when the great folks at gamershell.com already got the new package mirrored - our sincere thanks!

Depending on your geographical location, you may prefer to pick up the Ca3DE-8.09.zip file from their mirrors at http://www.gamershell.com/news/59384.html instead of the Ca3DE Download site.

Hi Carsten,

I've updated your pricing information on GameDeveloperTools.com. Just to confirm, is the demo version available for use with non-commercial games, or is that strictly for evaluation? Currently, I have the non-commercial price updated to $325.

Thanks,
Tim

Dear Tim,

thank you very much for your impressive website and your great efforts! :wohow:

The free demo can indeed be used for free for non-commercial projects [1].
However, the source code that is included with the demo is only for evaluation and doesn't compile by itself. Instead, the demo includes all the binaries like the world editor, the tools, the scripts and the engine, and is thus suitable for small non-commercial projects.
The source-code is only available under one of the licenses, so maybe you can list both "free" and $325 ?

[1] I just realize that this is nowhere clearly stated, thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks Carsten! I will list both prices under Non Commercial. The listing should be updated by the time you read this.

Cheers,
Tim

Congrats Carsten! :D

I'm glad to see your engine evolving in such a great way. It's a totally-pro product. That price for a full source code license is a bargain! Keep it up. I'm downloading and testing 8.09 right now to see the new stuff in action.

Regards,

Alvaro F. Celis

wow Carsten! wow! Is all I can say! :D

I loved to see the usual maps from previous versions running fast and stable with all the engine's updates, but I had never seen the tech demo! This is the real essence of the new Ca3de! WOW and triple wow!

And I was likewise impressed by Cawe. You and your team really took Tread3d to a whole new level in which is almost impossible to see any resemblance with the original code.

I must congratulate everyone on the team, you guys deserve all the best. Now I want to give the Linux verison a ride! ;)

regards,

Alvaro

Dear Alvaro,

wow, it's great to hear from you after this long time!!! :wohow:
Thank you very much four feed-back about the new release, it's great to hear you like it!

We're in fact already working on the next version a lot, and while I don't want to give the details away too early, we can already say that a true physics engine will be integrated into the game code (finally we will get properly falling crates and barrels, properly sync'ed over the network!), and that CaWE will undergo more very significant enhancements, e.g. a new "GUI editor" will be added for the 2D and 3D in-game GUIs, a "New Font" wizard for the GUIs is already finished, and the user interface and many underlying concepts will much be improved and modernized.

Please let us know if the Linux version worked for you as well - any feedback is always very welcome! :cheesy:
