Server and client same machine

Post by desirefx » 2006-10-03, 05:56

I am trying to create a virtual reality chat room that does not require a standalone server. can the server and client be run on the same machine so two users can chat with each other?

Hi desirefx,
and welcome the the Ca3DE forums! :)

Whenever you run a single player game, Ca3DE in the current version automatically runs the server and the client simultaneously, so that another person on another computer can join the session.

It is also possible to run another client-only instance on the same machine that runs the single player (server+client) instance. However, doing so is not recommended, because you had to run both instances in a window rather than full-screen, and usually the OS and graphics drivers get problems to provide both 3D windows with good performance.
Best regards,

Console Message

Carsten,

I am back working on this project after being distracted elsewhere. Is there a way to not have the list of baseline messages come up when you enter the console window?

Currently not, but I can do that for you once your project is approaching maturity, and/or I'll remove it in one of the next releases anyway, depending on other aspects of my work.
Best regards,
Carsten
