Hammer 4.0

Post by Advis » 2004-11-06, 12:02

It's been released, you need VALVe's 'Steam' service installed and HL2 pre-ordered. While it can open maps in .map format it will only save in .vmf which means that no support for Ca3DE :(.

Don't worry, we're working on CaWE. Working a LOT, and it's making good progress (e.g. Kai has just finished a great set of new GUI icons). Once released, it will render Hammer obsolete for Ca3DE mapping, and it will support Ca3DE specific features, of course. Until then, Hammer 3.5 does still exist to bridge the time. :)

Btw: Do you happen to have a link to more information about Hammer 4.0?

Carsten

Yes. Initially, CaWE will natively display terrains, and have a "update terrains from heightmap image" button.
You can then run your favourite terrain editor separately from (and in parallel to) CaWE, press "save" in the terrain editor, ALT+TAB to CaWE, hit "update terrain from heightmap image", and immediately see the changes.
This is still not perfect, but almost.
Later versions of CaWE will also have terrain editing features directly built-in.

Yes, you're right. I really hope to significantly improve that with CaWE. That is one of the major reasons why we are working on it, after all!

There's not much more 'information' I can give to you (If you catch my drift ;) hehehe)
