Hey Carsten, do you have a complete list of changes that we can expect in the next build? If not I can wait. Just hoping you had one on hand.

I only have a brief one about the most important changes. (Should really get the entire Ca3DE under version control, not just CaWE, in order to get detailed logs (as a pleasant side effect).)
  • My diploma thesis will be finished and made publicly available, :-)
  • new music by RewIreD/Dodger will be included,
  • .ase model file format support,
  • introduction of the Ca3DE Material System, a HUGE leap forward(!),
  • probably introduction of CaWE, which includes support for cmap loading/saving, MatSys, Bezier Patches, Smoothgroups for solids, etc. Terrains will probably be included in the release after the next.
  • Pleasant side effects like no need for WcMap2Ca.exe or MakeWAD.exe anymore. ;)
  • Code prepared for console variables and functions, and code prepared for better linking to interfaces implemented in DLLs.
  • The TechDemo will probably not make it into the next release.
Best regards,
Carsten

Sorry, not yet.
I've already written drafts for the Material System, but it makes no sense to release them ahead of time.
All documentation that I have will come with the release. I'm also trying my best to write them in such a way that they can be read and understood easily. Not a month of study required. :)

Yes, but
a) the Hammer GUI (the HL1 and HL2 editor) is much better and simpler, and thus the CaWE GUI is intentionally kept very similar to Hammer, and
b) qeRadiant is open-source, but still under copyright of id software.

You mean a standalone variant of queradiant besides qeradiant?
Never heard of, if any, but see a) above for why I'd not be interested anyway.

Summary: I acknowledge that queradiant is a good editor, but CaWE will be, too, and its almost finished now...

Don't worry, I'm working on it like hell (>10 hours per day).
But note that I modelled its GUI very similar to Hammer (intentionally, taking great efforts), not qeradiant.

Carsten
