not bad. I would slant where the flat part on top meets the grip and maybe bevel where the grip meets barrel a bit but looks fine now anyways. I will put up some of my low polys later. And im working on a like shipping district city level for my mod.

Well i think they look quite unfinished ;)

No smoothgroups, no textures and i think you did it all quite coarse so far.
The mesh proportions look okay, but they have too much polys, and less details.

I think you can finish it, just add more details and create a clean mesh, maybe some nice textures ;)

To be honest, milkshape is not a very good choice to learn how to model .. it only supports many game-related fileformats, that can be very usefull ..

To learn modelling, i would recommend Gmax, a special free version of 3D Studio Max, very easy to use.

Wings 3D
Another nice piece of software is the open scource modeller Wings, inspired by the legendary Nendo/Mirai Software..

http://www.wings3d.com/
This one is very different in handling, but offerst great subdiv modelling, great to create highresmeshes for Nmaps.

other alternatives are:

Caligari TrueSpace
An outdated version of Caligari TrueSpace 3.2, still very much morer powerfull than milkshape.

Blender 3D
This piece is freeware and offers a big community, plugins and tutorials, maybe the best freeware 3D package !!!

http://www.blender3d.com/

After choosing a better software, you will also find tutorials on how to unwrap UVs.

yes wings is great. i use wings to do the basics and milkshape if it needs touchups and sumtime animator for its smoothing stuff. Texturing i use lithunwrap. its free but there is a newer commercial version which is like ultimate unwrap3d or sumthing but lithunwrap is fine. check like fileplanet or sumthing 4 a download.

Im quite sure that lithunwrap is having a manual ?
Otherwise, i suggest that you use google, it should give you a few sites like this:
http://www.morpheus50.karoo.net/LithTUT.html
http://www.kaylon.freeuk.com/lithunwrap.htm

This should help you ;)

If you want to provide a free server, we would be happy to try it out ;)
So tell us when you have problems running the server or want to share the ip for some testings ^^

Maybe people start to create much more interesting mods, :)

Lightray 3D > rest 8)

I tried 3DMax Demo, GMax and Milkshape 3D but I didn't like them Milkshape was easy but it's a very basic program. 3DS is much too expensive and GMax is basically the same and well I just dont like it.

But I found a program that I use since that. It's very easy and powerful. It's called Lightray 3D and you can find it here!

Why dont you guys download the Half-life 2 edition of softimage? Its a hell of a lot better than milkshape or whatever else you use. It will export to the format you need.
